Modern Mod Vixen
This year, I wanted to manifest the deeper, moodier side of Valentine's Day. I found this floral dress from Old Navy; and I was struck by the juxtaposition of the darker tones with the feminine silhouette. It became a standout piece for me. I also relished in the mod quality about the length of the dress, and decided to take that theme and run with it. Et voila!! My moody, 1960's inspired Valentine's vixen look was born.
My favorite aspect of the fashion and beauty industry, (respectively), has to be the fact that we can tailor it to fit our personalities, which are ever-evolving. Style adapts with us; it breathes and flows with each passing day. This freedom allows us access to so many different types of looks, that augment all the different components of our personalities. We are not one-dimensional creatures; so why should our fashion and beauty be?
Currently, I have been looking back in time for my inspiration. I have become swept away with the breezy and 'laissez faire' approach of 1960's fashion. With Bridget Bardot and Twiggy being my ultimate icons of the era, I find myself channeling their effortless quality into my own personal style. The messy, teased and tousled locks of Bardot, with the inherent high-fashion, cool-girl attitude of Twiggy immediately drew me in. That intoxicating combination of these two fashion heroines galvanized my look this past Valentine's day.
I paired the dress with some AMAZINGGGG black patent heeled booties. They remind me of Austin Powers, in the best way possible. Keeping the 1960's firmly in mind, I teased my hair upwards to the heavens, creating my take on Bardot's textured mane. I finished off the style with some espresso lips and a bright teal crossbody bag to add a pop of color. This added some dimension and a source of soft airiness to this dark look.
Overall, it's safe to say, that I am going to be obsessed with the 60's for a while, and will be pinning on Pinterest like a fiend. So sorry in advance if you follow me, because you'll get your fill of retro bombshells on your feed. (Sorry not sorry).
In other beauty news, I am pumped to get my hands on Almay's new "Shadow Squad". It's one color, done four ways. One matte, one satin, one metal, and one glitter shade. It's a minimalist's dream. And they come in so many gorgeous colors, that it's going to be hard for me not to buy the whole collection. Have any of you seen these eyeshadow quads? Have you tried them out? Comment down below and tell me your thoughts!!
I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine's day, filled with joy, whimsy, and lots of love. Thank you so much for reading. Check back next week for even more fashion and beauty fun!
