Fall Favorites
My favorite time of the year are the Fall and Winter months. Granted, living in Texas, we don't have much of a Fall season. The weather tends to skip straight from hot to cold, with little-to-no warning. But that doesn't stop me from busting out all of my scarves, sweaters and boots. I just love the feelings associated with the colder months; warmth and cheer.
Once the September issues of all the major fashion magazines hit the stands everywhere, I immediately started dreaming of the temperature dropping outside. Vogue and Elle boasted new designer trends that will be sweeping the nation, inspiring fashionistas everywhere. Scanning through these meccas of all things beautiful, I have chosen a few Fall trends that I am most excited about.
Keep reading below to see my personal picks!
1. French Makeup
Now when I say "French Makeup" I am not meaning replace your whole cosmetics bag with French brands. I mean makeup trends all French women rule by. In America, we tend to apply our makeup liberally and with a heavy hand. Now I am not bashing that in any way, shape or form. In the past few years, heavy contouring and bold, ultra defined brows dominated Instagram and YouTube channels. But as we've come into 2017, we have seen this trend shift into a more natural face.
This has always been the M.O. in French beauty. The women in France tend to focus on skincare rather than makeup. They rarely wear foundation; opting for moisturized, dewy skin instead. Then they play up their eyes and lips. I am seeing this all throughout fashion campaigns like Dior, Fendi, Givenchy and so on.
I think this trend is a welcome relief to those who can be easily overwhelmed by the dark and dramatic looks that have been so popular (Including me!!). This will definitely be more of an everyday trend; for the workplace or brunch with bae, this natural, dewy, soft trend is so easy to achieve.
Wondering how this translates to evening? Think of those quintessential French film bombshells; smudge your eyeliner, define your lashes with some black mascara, and finish the look with that classic Parisian red lip. All the boys will be calling you "L'amore de ma vie" with this seductive siren look.
2. Houndstooth
Patterns come in and out of style like the tides; always moving, always changing. But what once flowed out to sea must always come back to shore.
The major pattern coming back into fashion this season is Houndstooth. A wide array of designers are utilizing this pattern in their Winter collections. Some campaigns include Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo, Michael Kors, Sandro Paris and so on.
This trend is so chic and easy to attain. Houndstooth coats, hats, pants, shoes, and even watches will be seen on fashion moguls and models alike this winter.
3. Disco Glamour
Now, this is the trend I am most excited about. Disco swept the nation during the 1970's, and it impacted the fashion industry where we still see it's influence to this day. This trend is dripping with glamour and sensuality.
Balmain consistently launches collections of dresses that appear like molten gold; covering the model in Studio 54 sparkle. Saint Laurent created a pair of fierce sequined boots that just make you want to hustle alllll night long.
Not only is the fashion world being influenced by the disco era, but the beauty industry as well.
Think of Pat McGrath Labs newest launch of matte lipsticks. It reminds me of the pillowy pouts of the disco dolls of the 70's. Also, her Dark Star 006 eye shadow kits creates a disco ball effect on the eye, mesmerizing every one in sight. Plus, how gorgeous is her packaging?! A pouch of beautiful makeup AND sequins? My dream come true! If you want to see this eye kit in action click here to see Byrdie editor's Faith Xue review the product.
All of those products resemble the sex appeal and mystery associated with 1970's glamour. But, the best part is, disco was also meant to be fun; just like fashion and makeup!
Well, I hope y'all enjoyed my thoughts on some Fall/Winter fashion and beauty trends, and I look forward to being able to recreate some of these looks in the future!
