Fiesta Forever
I don't know about y'all, but I used to look in magazines and think, "Why in the world would someone ever mix those two prints together?" Runways would consist of fashions that, to my naive eyes, looked like someone got dressed in the dark. I could never quite wrap my head around the concept of mixing and matching prints and and felt a little self-conscious as I left the house. So, for the majority of my life, I would play things safe, not wear anything too bold, maybe only have one focal point in an outfit.
Not anymore.
As I have gotten older, (and more comfortable with fashion), I have been dabbling in the art of pattern mixing. I have come to realize that I want my clothes to be an extension of my personality, which means being a little more bold and way more fun.
Summertime is perfect for experimenting with fun fashions and clothes. It's a season of bright colors, embellishments, tassels, pom poms, embroidery, and so much more. It's a time when loud outfits are a necessity. Think about it, there are shirts or dresses in your closet that are solely dedicated or summer and/or vacation. We all have those pieces.
Now onto the good stuff.
Ruffles are all the rage right now. I love how they sway in the breeze. Each step you make creates movement, and catches everyone's eye. That is why I love this red floral two piece set from Hazel & Olive. It has everything I could ever want. Pattern? Check. Bright color? Check. Off the shoulder? Check. Ruffles? Triple check.
Also, is it just me? Or does this outfit remind you of the dancing girl emoji?? Because I immediately thought of her when I purchased this. It encompasses her essence; sassy, flirty, bold, and crazy fun. She's definitely my summer spirit animal. And this two piece set pays homage to my homegirl. I couldn't help myself and started twirling all over the place. This look just makes you want to dance!
Something else noteworthy about this outfit; I realized that I could pair the top with some high-waisted jeans or denim skirt, and I could also just pair the tiered skirt with a bodysuit or tank. I have 3 different outfits from the get go. Now that is a win in my opinion.
Being that I am from Texas, I love that this look has a Latin vibe. It reminds me of the large, flowy skirts you'll see on mariachi dancers.
I added a pair of neutral-toned wedges to add some balance. I wanted the shoes to be a solid base at the bottom, so as not to detract from the fun, bold florals.
In comes the mixing component. I loved wearing this cheetah print clutch with this look. There is something about florals and animal prints that always catches my attention. I have become a bit more comfortable and I am challenging myself to push outside of my box in terms of beauty and fashion. which means buying something I wouldn't normally wear, or trying out a new makeup trend. So, I grabbed this clutch and fell in love.
My advice for anyone wanting to try out some pattern or print mixing: be brave and go for it. Fashion is meant to be expressive and fun. I realized that I was taking it too seriously, and one day I just wanted to let loose. It's always better to turn heads rather than blend into the crowd. And this outfit will definitely get you noticed.
Lastly, how amazing is the blue wall with the red?? I am L I V I N G for this color combination. So if anyone around town sees me loitering by this wall, just come say hi!
Be bold and be YOU!
Thank you so much for reading!
