Baby, You're A Firework

First of all, Happy Fourth of July!!! I just want to thank all of the brave men and women who lay down their lives in order to maintain our freedom. I am so proud to be an American, and to live in this amazing country. So, with that being said, I love getting to celebrate Independence Day, decked out in red, white, and blue.
In my family, we spend each Fourth of July at home, swimming in the pool, grilling, and celebrating my Grandmother's birthday (which happens to be July 4th). We love to swim during the day and relax before all of our family members come in the evening to celebrate my grandma.

One piece swimsuits are making an emergence in fashion, ranging from bold patterns, to off-the-shoulder designs. I love that this trend is coming back around. In my opinion, bathing suits have been getting skimpier and skimpier with each passing summer. As a woman with a full bust, that irritates me. I prefer swimwear with fuller coverage, so that I don't feel like I'm spilling out everywhere for the world to see.

This retro-esque bathing suit is amazing. I love that it creates an illusion of a high-waist bottom. It cinches in my waist and creates a flattering silhouette. The navy and white color scheme is on point for the Fourth, which is part of the reason I ordered this suit. This bathing suit reminds me of Pinup Girls circa 1930's. I love that era of fashion; woman had curvy and lush figures, and had a sweet sensuality infused into their wardrobes. So slipping on this one piece, I know that I'm getting the coverage I desire, but also achieving a figure-flattering vintage vibe. You can buy this bathing suit ($37) and others like it at Hazel and Olive!

Once I climbed out of the pool, I slipped on this red and blue embroidered dress for the birthday celebration. This Spanish-style embroidery is everywhere in the fashion world. Bloggers all across the nation are peppering their Instagram with this trend; which I am obsessed with! I love it for summer; it makes me feel flirty and fun. Plus, it goes hand-in-hand with a cold margarita on the rocks!
This patriotic dress is soooo comfy. I love that it has a loose fit, so that I can comfortably eat all the BBQ and cake I want. This dress is from the motherland, otherwise known as 'Target'. For those of you looking to incorporate this embroidered trend into their wardrobe, the Who What Wear collection at Target offers some embroidered jeans, button ups and more.

Anyways, back to the topic on hand. The blue drop earrings I am wearing are also from Target. They are from the BaubleBar X Sugarfix collection. I kid you not, I could (and have in the past) drop a pretty penny on this collaboration. I love the range of jewelry and the price point. You can find bright, fun, summery pieces like these blue earrings I'm wearing. Or you could find higher end, evening pieces that are appropriate for a fancy dinner out in Dallas. It's the ultimate one-stop-shop, and I have spent more money than I am willing to admit at the SugarFix display.

I finished off this look with a pair of white Chuck Taylors. In my opinion, nothing screams 'Americana' more than a classic pair of Converse high tops. I also wanted to add an element of casual comfort to this dress, not wanting to be too fancy while spending an evening at home. It helps that I also had wet hair from the pool. I liked the juxtaposition between the dress/earrings and my damp, mermaid waves. It embodied the spirit of relaxed celebration that only comes from Independence Day.
But for an extra zing, I swiped on a bright coral red lip that reminds me of fireworks. The lip color I'm wearing is ColorPop Lippie Stix ($5), in the shade "Julep". I love these lipstick pens because they act as a lip liner and color all in one. I can get the precision that I need, and the color won't bleed from my lips throughout the night.
(Heads up!! Julep, and a few other select shades, are on sale right now for $4! Get one while you still can!)
