Old Hollywood Glam

With Awards season in full swing, I can't help but feel the desire to work a red carpet. But, there's only one little setback... I'm not a Hollywood star with droves of stylists and racks of designer clothes at my beck and call.

So, what is a girl to do? I have the answer. Fake it till you make it!

My inspiration behind this glamorous look was Marilyn Monroe in her famous white dress. But the best part is that I did not have to break the bank to achieve this style. Here's what I did:

I bought this white, pleated shift dress from Hazel and Olive. The pleats create movement with every step you take, billowing in the wind just like Marilyn. This dress also comes in black, for when you need something deep, dark and moody, yet still uber feminine.

I paired this dress with a pair of blush, embellished Badgley Mischka heels. Yes, they're designer. Yes, they really expensive. But I have a secret to share... I got them for about $30 on an online garage sale!!!! I am so proud of this purchase. Nothing fills me with more joy than finding great pieces for low prices. I live for that moment. But any pale blush, metallic, or nude heel would work fabulously here.

I chose a bold red lip because nothing says old Hollywood more like a vivid, saturated red lip. I piled on the mascara to create a defined, plush lash look.

For my hair, I made a deep side part, and went with polish waves. All of the silver screen sirens had these lustrous waves that I always envied. So naturally, I had to recreate this hairstyle.

One way to take this red carpet ready outfit from glam to everyday, is to incorporate an oversize denim jacket. The juxtaposition between the rough denim and thin, flowy dress creates a unique style that adds a tough-girl flare to this classic look.

I'll definitely be recreating this look for my upcoming birthday! Because when I celebrate, I want to feel like a star!

You can shop this dress at Hazel and Olive and recreate this Old Hollywood inspired look, and I can't wait to see how you add your own unique flare!
